BCS Frenzy - College Football News and Opinions

Webcam Networking

by Allison on May 10th, 2008

webcam ESPN posted an interesting article earlier this week about webcams. The rules of the road are changing in college football, and with advances in technology, many coaches, including Nick Saban, will be recruiting via webcam this year to bypass the “Saban Rule”.

This NCAA rules is keeping head coaches from visiting high schools through May. Before this rule went into effect, recruited was only allowed in short, inadvert contacts, but Saban was accused of breaking this rule last year, so now coaches aren’t allowed to visit at all.

But webcams are allowed.

The AP has reported that “several” of the schools they contacts are using or will use webcams to help recruit. Saban himself has been reportedly contact four or five recruits a day via video conferencing.

Other coaches, including Bobby Bowden and Tommy Tuberville will not be using webcams.

Under NCAA rules, talking via webcam is considered the same as talking during a phone call, so the same rules apply.

Recruiting certainly is evolving. For the better? I’m not so sure. What do you think?
