Someone to Watch: Heath Benedict
Earlier this week, Rivals.com did a feature on Senior Bowl player Heath Benedict. When I heard the name, I had to say, “Who?” because, like most football fans, I wasn’t familiar with the name.
Benedict is the only player from a Division II school in the Senior Bowl. From the tiny South Carolina school Newberry College, this offensive lineman, however, deserves to be there. Benedict started off his career at Tenessee, and after moving on to Newberry, he became the South Atlantic Conference’s top blocker. At 6 feet, 332 pounds, he certainly has the build for an NFL offensive lineman, and experts are guessing that he will go in the draft, perhaps on the second day, even though his name isn’t well know.
Personally, I think he’s someone to watch. For an NFL team that needs some solid players, it looks like Benedict is the man. His performance in the game on Saturday will tell us just how he stacks up against Division I players. I, for one, and excited to see what he can do.
