Sam Keller Pounds the Pavement
Former Nebraska quarterback Sam Keller had a great start in 2007. He sent school records and had high hopes for playing in the NFL.
But, as we all know, in football things can change quickly. In a fateful game against Texas, Keller injured his shoulder, putting him out of commission for the end of the season and, in effect, causing NFL teams to pass him by during the draft.
So, like all other college grads are doing right now, Keller pounded that pavement to find a job. He practiced for a while with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but today announced that he has signed a three-year free-agent contract wit the Los Angeles Avengers, an Arena Football League team.
At first glance, it is easy to somewhat pity Keller, as he had the talent to possibly do well in the NFL. On second thought, though, let’s think this through. Keller signed for, I’m assuming, a decent amount of money. His job? Playing football - and without all the NFL hype. Seriously, it might not be the million-dollar job he wanted, but compared to the thousands of college grads taking positions slinging burgers or pumping gas because the job market sucks right now…it’s a pretty sweet deal.
Best of luck, Sam Keller - perhaps we haven’t heard the last from you yet!
