RIP Heath Benedict
How very, very sad…
This week, football lost a draft prospect that could have been great. More importantly, though, the NCAA is mourning the loss of not a person that could have been great…a person who simple was great.
Heath Benedict, a 24-year-old offensive lineman from Jacksonville, was found dead in his home yesterday.
Benedict was the first player from Div-II since 2004 to take part in the Senior Bowl. He was also invited to the NFL combine was busy preparing for the upcoming draft.
I touched on the potential I saw in Benedict earlier this year. Yes, he could have been an amazing asset to any NFL team that drafted him, but more importantly, Benedict was a “teddy bear” according to Newberry staff.
RIP. You’ll be missed by fans and friends everywhere.
