LSU Saves Face and Jumps on Top
After what could have been an embarrassing loss to Tulane on Saturday, LSU pulled out the win and suddenly found themselves on top of the college rankings. LSU isn’t used to being on top. The whole top ten list looks awkward.
So, of course, there’s all this debate going on in regards to USC’s drop to number two. After all, they won their game, and it was an away game in Washington, where the weather sucks more than Penn State’s quarterback. This is the first time in like, a bajillion years (sometime in the ’60s I think), that a first-place team dropped to number two after winning their game.
Of course, some are arguing that USC has had a much easier season than LSU. I’ll agree with that. But, the fact remains that if USC and LSU played against one another today, I would bet on USC as winner. I think they should still be at number one.
What this really brings about, however, is the whole debate regarding the poll/bowl/ranking system. We’ve been crying for a better one for years now; maybe this year will help to bring around changes. I mean, we’re probably going to have more than two undefeated teams in the top five. Shouldn’t they all get a chance at at number one spot?

It will be interesting to see what happens when LSU gets into a tight war with Florida and USC scores 900 against Stanford and their backup QB.
