Filling Some Big Shoes - BCS Top Quarterback Replacements

Chad HenneEarly this week, I asked if USC could be a powerhouse in 2008 without some of their key starters, including quarterback John David Booty. Come to think of it, though, Booty isn’t by far the only quarterback out there that has left a vacant spot in a thriving program. I mean, just look at the Michigan situation, with the loss of Chad Henne and now Ryan Mallet. Many of the top 25 teams have lost their quarterbacks this year, so all eyes will be on the new starters for 2008. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be previewing all of these fine fellas, and I hope you’ll weigh in with your opinions on them and the teams they’ll be leading!

Top 25 of 2007 (AP Poll) - Last season’s QBs and their possible Replacements:                                              

  1. LSU - Matt Flynn, likely replaced by Ryan Perrilloux
  2. Georgia - Matthew Stafford, back next year
  3. USC - John David Booty, likely replaced by Mark Sanchez
  4. Missouri - Chase Daniel, back next year
  5. Ohio State - Todd Boeckman, back next year
  6. West Virginia - Pat White, back next year
  7. Kansas - Todd Reesing, back next year
  8. Oklahoma - Sam Bradford, back next year
  9. Viginia Tech - Sean Glennon, back next year
  10. Texas - Colt McCoy, back next year
  11. Boston College - Matt Ryan, likely replaced by Chris Crane or Billy Flutie
  12. Tennessee - Erik Ainge, likely replaced by Jonathan Crompton
  13. Florida - Tim Tebow, back next year
  14. BYU - Max Hall, back next year
  15. Auburn - Brandon Cox, likely replaced by Kodi Burns
  16. Arizona State - Rudy Carpenter, back next year
  17. Cincinnati - Ben Mauk, likely replaced by Dustin Grutza or Tony Pike
  18. Michigan - Chad Henne, likely replaced by…um…
  19. Hawaii - Colt Brennan, likely replaced by Ionke Funaki
  20. Illinois - Juice Willians, back next year
  21. Clemson - Cullen Harper, back next year
  22. Texas Tech - Graham Harrell, back next year
  23. Oregon - Dennis Dixon, likely replaced by Justin Roper
  24. Wisconsin - Tyler Donovan, likely replaced by Allan Evridge
  25. Oregon State - Sean Canfield, back next year

So that’s 10 out of 25 that will be headed up by bran new quarterbacks (although some of these guys are somewhat veterans, as they got playing time in 2007).

  • Joe Flacco, Delaware
  • Josh Jackson, San Diego
  • Andre Woodson, Kentucky
