Can Jimmy Clausen Pull It Together For 2008?
In the spring of 2007, everyone in college football was buzzing about the do-no-wrong kid from Oaks Christian High School. Jimmy Clausen pulled up to his press conference in a Hummer looking like a porcupine on crack. When he announced that he’s be going to Notre Dame in the fall, everyone patted Coach Weis on the back. It was a great recruit.
And then…well…he sucked.
Ok, ok, Clausen can’t be completely blamed for the horrible season Notre Dame played in 2007. Their offensive lined lacked the cohesion the freshman quarterback needed to really show his stuff, and sack after sack, the team disappointed their fans.
Clausen is listed as the started for 2008 over senior quarterback Evan Sharpley. I guess the coaches have faith that he’ll do better in 2008. The question is this: will he actually pull his shit together? In 2007, he seemed a little dear-in-the-headlights. For a kid who was the golden star on an undefeated team in high school, playing for the Fighting Irish was a rude awakening. No, you are not the best out there automatically. You either leave, defeated, or you work hard to become the best. Work, and if you have talent, you’ll go places. Just ask Tom Brady.
I don’t have an answer to the question I’ve asked. I think that it is very possible that Clausen worked out like crazy to improve his game and that the rest of the offense buckled down as well. We’ve seen great things happen in the off season before a la Tim Tebow, so perhaps Clausen will surprise us all and lead Notre Dame to victory in 2008. It is entire possible.
But for the record, I still think he’s kind a douche…

I think that Clausen has the ability to be good - he just needs the chance. notre dame keeps recruiting all this talent - something is bound to go right for them, eventually. I wouldn’t cry if it happened while they were playing michigan.
At least timmy tebow won a national championship is freshman year.

:p I won’t cry either. I image we’ll hear the words “rebuilding season” a lot this year when it comes to Michigan!!!
