BCS! BCS! BCS! BRENNAN FOR HEISMAN!
That’s what the crowd chanted last night after Hawaii’s amazing win over Boise State, the WAC Champions for the past six years. The poor WAC doesn’t have a bowl, so even though Hawaii is now the official WAC championship team, they aren’t guaranteed a berth.
Unless, of course, they finish in the top 12. Then, Hawaii is given the spot in the Sugar Bowl!
And come on. They deserve it. Hawaii went into this game at #14, but Boise State was ranked too, so their win should help boost the ‘Bows up a few notches. I’m cheering for them. Week after week, the experts have said that Hawaii is going to lose because they “aren’t that great” and week after week Colt Brennan has proven them wrong.
Brennan deserves the Heisman. He really does. The only real blemish on his season is that he had to sit out last week due to a concussion. Every other major Heisman candidate has had an injury or a bad loss or a bunch of stupid mistakes. So, I say to you, Heisman voters, WHY NOT BRENNAN?
People have questioned the quarterback’s abilities. After all, his schedule was week. Playing in, say, the SEC, would Hawaii have done well at all? Would they even finish middle of the pack?
We can never know. But what I do know is the numbers. Last night against Boise State, Brennan throw 53 times…and completed 40 of them, for a total of 495 yards and five touchdowns. He broke a ton of WAC and Hawaii records last night, and he didn’t stop there, surpassing many of them with leaps and bounds.
Final Score? 39-27, Hawaii. It wasn’t a blow out, but it wasn’t by the skin of their teeth either. A score like that proves that Hawaii didn’t just get lucky - they played a tough, tough team and they won.
