Austin Scott Rape Charges are Dropped
Yesterday, Centre County’s district attorney announced that all charges against former Penn State running back Austin Scott were being dropped.
Way to ruin his life, people.
Ok, I’m being unfair. If Scott really had raped that girl, I feel so sorry that he wasn’t brought to justice…and regardless, I was never a huge Austin Scott fan (for various reasons). However, if I had to guess, I’d say that they both had too much to drink, that she didn’t assert the fact that she didn’t want sex, and that it just happened. Again, no disrespect to rape victims out there - it just didn’t line up to make sense with this story.
It doesn’t matter how I felt about Scott as a person either. It pisses me off that this whole thing got dragged out and caused him to miss his senior season. Scott still aspired to be in the NFL, and if he works hard enough, it is definitely possible, but it will be a hell of a lot harder now.
This whole situation was handled badly from the start. Scott acted like a douchebag. The girl acted like a bitch. The prosecutors acted like tools. The media reporting the story acted like it was the story of the year.
I’m just glad it’s over.
