Always the Bridesmaid…Darren McFadden is Passed for the Heisman
Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Moment ago, Darren McFadden was passed up for the Heisman. Who won? Why, Tim Tebow, of course!
Was there really any doubt he would win? Personally, I was cheering for McFadden, although him winning seemed like a long shot. I think Tebow’s win came down to three things:
1. He broke the 20-20 record and had 51 touchdowns in the regular season.
2. He played through the season without injuries.
3. He consistently improved since his shaky showing last season. That means that he WORKED during the off-season.
Does Tebow deserve the Heisman? He sure does. That doesn’t mean that McFadden didn’t deserve it too. McFadden became one of the few players (and the first for many decades) to end up as the runner-up twice. He had 31% of the vote, which is the highest ever percentage for a runner-up ever. And that’s nothing to laugh about. Congrats, McFadden. You’re a class act.
I do have to say though, after all of the griping I did about Tebow over this season, he really is a great player. I’m glad that the voters kept and gave him the award. I think it will be hard to argue that Tebow didn’t deserve the award, and I look forward to seeing what he can go next year.

Congrats also to Colt Brennan on another fantastic year at U-H.

Totally, Geoff. I was not-so-secretly routing for him to win. I mean, I knew he wouldn’t, but I’m a Brennan fan all the way!

I don’t think Tebow deserved it personally. I think his win and Kansas leap-frogging Missouri in the BCS were both mistakes down the stretch.

I am glad McFadden didn’t win it, I want him to be a productive pro.
