7 Draft Opinions
One of the great things about football is the wonderful opinions people have about the sport. The rivalries, the debates, the comradery…its like everyone who enjoys the game is one big family. Not always happy, but always hopeful!
I was browsing some of my favorite NCAA sites, and I saw some really great opinions about the upcoming draft. Of course, I don’t agree with everything below, but these people were brave enough to leave a great comment. Here’s what other people are saying about the draft:
1. Regarding the Dolphins talking to Jake Long an Vernon Gholston:
smart move by the dolphins managment.
stay away from picking offensive skill players in round 1~jctowns at Aol’s NCAA Fanhouse
2. Regarding Matt Ryan potentially going to Baltimore:
I’m personally not that convinced about Matt Ryan, partly because I saw him play at Alumni Stadium twice and he was disappointing both times, but I really don’t want to head into the season with McNair and Boller as our first two quarterbacks. I was really against Ryan for a while because cornerbacks were a bigger need, but I’ll be able to live with it if we draft him…

3. Regarding if the Dolphins should draft offensive or defensive players:
The first pick really isn’t even the most important for the Dolphins. I don’t feel like any of the top 3 (Jake Long, Chris Long, Vernon Gholston) are going to be huge busts, so no matter what, the first pick contract will be well spent.
What’s really going to shape the future of the Dolphins is the picks in the 2nd through 5th rounds.

4. Regarding the Stats of the top four quarterbacks:
The difference in number of starts between Henne and the other three is really very striking. This suggests he’s the ’safest’ of the QBs on this list. Not sure that’s true (his pocket presence is a concern), but I do really like him as a prospect for a team that has run/pass balance and likes to throw downfield.

5. Regarding McFadden’s talent:
WHAT!? McFadden is better than Adrian Peterson??? How can you make a statement like that and even call yourself a football fan?
~Ryan at Pancake Blocks
6. Regarding the Rams’ pick:
If Chris Long is taken #1, I think the Rams should take Vernon Gholston. They can always pick up an offensive lineman in the 2nd round.
~K.Hanson at The Fantasy Kickoff
7. Regarding Penn State’s draft prospects:
Austin Scott has been invited to the Penn State Pro Day, and it is reported that he will attend.
If he has any chance of making a free agency signing - he has to be stellar and convince the scouts that he’s worth his off-the-field baggage.
imho, Justin King has all of the components necessary to be a good dback - but he didn’t show much “heart” in his PSU career - especially his junior year - whether he was recovering from or trying to avoid further injury - his performance in 2007 was, at best, inconsistent - but mainly just poor. But due to his combine workout - people are talking about him and reviewing his film - for his sake, I hope they look at his sophomore year.
King is a smart kid - he completed his PSU degree in 3 years (graduated in December) with excellent grades - I wish him well.
