by Allison on April 21st, 2008

It’s countdown time - we’re 5 days before the 2008 NFL draft, so every day here at BCS Frenzy, I’m going to bring you resources, news, and opinions as part of the draft countdown!

On the 5th day before the draft, BCS Frenzy gave to me:

12 mock draft websites
11 early entries
10 past draft flops
9 no-name sleepers
8 returning juniors
7 draft opinions
6 Heisman winners
5 great quarterbacks
4 draft-deciding moments
3 smartest Miami moves
2 overrated “stars”
and 1 debate over salary rules…

5 Great Quarterbacks

(other than Matt Ryan)

Every year, there are tons of teams that pass up the best quarterbacks in order to snag a lineman, running back, or receiver instead. This year, there is a lot of talent in the draft, especially in the quarterback position. We’re hearing waaaaaay too much about Matt Ryan right now, so let’s take a look at 5 underrated quarterbacks, in my opinion:

1. Andre Woodson, Kentucky

If you don’t think Andre Woodson is a good quarterback, just look at his td/int ratio over the past two years. Sure, he has some weaknesses, but I think with the right coach, he could be a great pick for a team that needs a leader. When the going gets tough, this kid isn’t afraid to scramble.

2. Dennis Dixon, Oregon

Is everyone forgetting that this guy was a strong Heisman candidate until a late 2007 injury kept him from playing in the last few games? He’s got some definite improving to do and may not be the best pick for someone who needs a quarterback RIGHT AWAY…but I think in a few years, he’ll be able to hold his own in the NFL, potentially as a starter.

3. Erik Ainge, Tennessee

Right now, Ainge’s biggest problem is his inconsistency. However, he’s a four-year starter and in the last two years coaching by David Cutcliffe (who also coached the Manning brothers in the past) has really helped him improve his game. I think with the right coaching, he’ll continue to improve drastically.

4. Colt Brennan, Hawaii

It’s no secret that I’m a Colt Brennan fan and let me tell you why - right now, there are a number of times that need a franchise quarterback…a real leader. That’s what this guy is - a passionate leader. Yes, I know that his regular season 10-0 record happened in part because Hawaii’s schedule was weak, but he’s still extremely confident under pressure.

5. Josh Johnson, San Diego

If Josh Johnson would have gone to a Div-I school, I think he’s be ranked up there with Ryan and Brian Brohm. He’s a tough player that is really smart about his passes. In my opinion, this guy is the real deal - a potential NFL starter.
